Bleeding Heart Bakery Opens New Location with Eating Contest

Chicago's original punk cupcakery, Bleeding Heart Bakery, will be opening a third location in Lakeview on July 17. The bakery will take the place of former children's party concept, Smash Cake, which opened just last year. Expect the same line-up of Bleeding Heart staples (insane flavors, odd themes, deliciousness) in a larger space that accomodates cafe lurkers and alt girls in knitting groups.

To kick off the opening, Bleeding Heart will be hosting their First Annual Cupcake Eating Contest, judged with three categories: a timed eating contest, most creative cupcakes and a kid's event. Fellow tatted up friends from places like Alterra Coffee, The Alley, Kumas Corner, and Metropolitan Brewery have donated prizes for the contest and a raffle. Wash your sugar-filled sins with coffee from Alterra rep, Mike Ebert, who will be brewing up samples of great coffee on various home brewing devices such as Chem-ex, French Press, Aero press, and Cone. Bleeding Heart will also be holding a bake sale with specialty goods to benefit research for Children with Autism.

Bleeding Heart Bakery's grand opening will be held on Saturday, July 17 at 2961 N. Lincoln Ave. from 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Registration for the cupcake eating contest and creative cupcake competition are $25 each; kid's event is $15, and must be reserved by e-mail or by calling 773-327-6934.
