Baby's First Christmas Spent With DCFS

Abandoned infant found in cold North Side vestibule

An abandoned infant spent her first Christmas in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Chicago police were continuing their search Friday for the mother of the infant abandoned in a cold vestibule in the Uptown neighborhood, wrapped in a blanket and wearing a cotton onsie.

A woman who lives in the building found the baby about 8:30 p.m. Monday as she was leaving her apartment building with her son.

The newborn girl was taken to Children's Memorial Hospital in good condition after she was discovered.

Police said the baby is now in the custody of DCFS.
