Bill Ayers, who was thrust into the spotlight during the presidential campaign, penned an op-ed piece that appeared in Saturday's New York Times.
In it, he explains why he refused to play a role in the drama surrounding him. He says he was cast as an "unrepentant terrorist," a role he claims is nowhere near accurate.
"With the mainstream news media and the blogosphere caught in the pre-election excitement, I saw no viable path to a rational discussion," wrote Ayers. "Rather than step clumsily into the sound-bite culture, I turned away whenever the microphones were thrust into my face. I sat it out."
