Several companies now offer genetic tests to determine whether someone has a gene for Type 2 diabetes. But they can cost up to $400.
Are they worth it?
Supporters say the tests let you know your risk for diabetes early, when it's still possible to reduce the odds through diet and exercise.
But scientists at MIT found that the tests weren't that helpful as a predictor. They say the best predictor still is the doctor, who can tell your risk from your family history, age and from you blood sugar levels.
