A Different Kind of Dog Days

Bucktown's Red Dog House hosts a massage event for dogs and cats

Veterinary experts agree that harsh weather is tough on domestic animals -- hence the phrase "dog days of summer." (Man, what we wouldn't give for a little heat and humidity right now.) Give your pets some extra TLC this winter when Bucktown's Red Dog House hosts "Paws and Refresh," an annual massage therapy event for dogs and cats.

A certified canine massage therapist, Ursula Sanchez, who also owns the Bow & Meow Pet Spa in Bucktown, will be on hand from 3-7PM on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Red Dog House, an upscale pet boutique. Sanchez will be conducting private 15-minute sessions based on individual pet's needs to help her patients relax and de-stress during the post-holiday, deep freeze of winter.

Each session costs $15, with all fees donated entirely to Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society. Pet owners must register and pre-pay by either stopping by Red Dog House (2031 N. Damen Ave.), calling 773-227-7341 or emailing steve@reddoghouse.com.
