9-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling Through Ice

A 9-year-old Naperville girl died after falling through thin ice on a retention pond in the White Eagle Club neighborhood of Naperville early Thursday afternoon, Naperville police said. Maheen Ahmad

Naperville police units arrived on the scene to find that three young children had been playing on the ice when it broke and two of the children dropped into the icy water, according to a release from the Naperville Fire Department. Maheen Ahmad died at the hospital while two other children, ages 8 to 10 years old, were rescued from the water around 1 p.m. near Aviara Court and Saddlebrook Drive.
