8/12: A Proper Pub For Wicker Park

Division Ale House debuts, a two-for-one burger deal and a mixologist search

LONG DIVISION: From the guy behind People's Lounge, the just-opened Division Ale House in Wicker Park pours English and Irish imports (Boddingtons, Smithwick's, etc), which they serve in 80-ounce beer towers sporting internal ice cores to keep the brew as cold as a Foreigner lyric. Grub's modern spins on Irish classics, such as mac-and-cheese in a thick, Guinness-infused sauce, whiskey marmalade-glazed corned beef, and fried spring rolls stuffed with corned beef -- which they call Irish Pipe Bombs, and the weak-stomached know as the yuck of the Irish.

HEAVEN ON A BUN: The rustica and airy Birchwood Kitchen (reclaimed church pews and bar seats, exposed brick, open kitchen...) is peddling a truly generous, gut-busting deal: buy one homemade burger any Wednesday and get the second burger free. Bonus: the joint's BYOB, meaning you'll pay that much less cash for being that much more fat.

COCKTAIL CULTURE: The Sweet Sixteen of Mixology tournament continues tonight in Perennial's sexy fuschia-hued private event room, with Zach Freidlander of Relax Lounge going up against Lynn House of Graham Elliot in a battle royale of booze. You'll get to sample their hand-crafted alcoholic entries and vote for your favorite while gorging yourself on passed appetizers from this perpetually popular hot spot. And, bonus: Everything is gratis! 6:30-8 p.m. 1800 N. Lincoln Avenue, at Clark; Lincoln Park; 312-981-7070
