1 Rescued, 2 Missing After Vehicle Falls Into Calumet River

The three men were allegedly driving back home from an engagement party, family of victim says

A vehicle  plunged into the Calumet River Sunday with three men on board, officials said.

According to police, surveillence video confirms the incident occurred near the 13600 block of South Calhoun Street.

One of the victims, a 26-year-old man, was rescued at the scene and immediately transported to Trinity Hospital, authorities said.

According to his family, the three men were driving back home from an engagement party.

Davontae Searcy, 23, and 26-year-old Demetrius Hendricks were identified as the missing victims.

“The victim believes his two friends may still be in the vehicle submerged in the water,” stated the press release.

A hazardous weather outlook issued early Sunday for much of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana warns of “gale force winds” and “very hazardous waves,” according to the National Weather Service.

No further details were immediately known.
