A pregnant Chicago teen accused of murder in Bali was rushed to the hospital on Friday.
Heather Mack’s attorney, Ary Soenardi, told NBC 5 Investigates through a third party in Indonesia that Mack was “sick”. There are also reports that the 19-year-old experienced stomach pains and blood loss and that she was taken by ambulance from her jail cell to Sanglah Hospital in Bali.
Mack’s current medical condition remains unclear. However, the Daily Mail reports a hospital spokesperson said Mack’s unborn baby is OK.
Mack is due to give birth to a girl in April. She told the Chicago Tribune she plans to name her daughter Stella.
The Chicago teen and her boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, are charged with killing Mack’s mother, Sheila von Wiese-Mack, and stuffing her body in a suitcase. They are currently standing trial. The couple could face the firing squad if convicted.
Mack has maintained her innocence and in an interview with the Tribune said she misses her mother and is petrified about her future and that of her unborn baby.
Mack’s apparent health scare concluded a whirlwind week in which she fired the Chicago attorneys working on her case. Also, a woman claiming to be her called a Cook County judge’s office three times asking how to get new lawyer.
