nCNN's docu-series, "Chicagoland," chronicled the politics of Chicago and how it affects real people’s lives. The eight-episode series featured Mayor Rahm and other political leaders of the city and was criticized by some for being too scripted.

nThe world got a great view of Chicago’s skyline when daredevil Nik Wallenda completed two skyscraper walks -- one blindfolded -- at the beginning of November. The event was shown live on The Discovery Channel.

nChicago-born Robin Williams died in early August, shocking the world with his unexpected death. The Oscar-winning actor and comedian battled depression and early stages of Parkinson's disease when he committed suicide.

Chicago PD and Chicago Fire were both renewed for the 2014-15 season and premiered in September. Both shows share the same creators and producers making it easy for characters and story lines to crossover from one show to the other. The two shows made the ultimate three-way cross over with Law and Order:SVU in November.

nIn June, Star Wars Director George Lucas announced that he chose Chicago as the home for his narrative museum. Designs were released in November and the spaceship-like structure will be seven levels and will feature a circular observation deck at the top.

Two authors of books, that were turned into movies, were both on the list for world’s top-earning authors. Veronica Roth, author of the Divergent series and Gillian Flynn, author of the Gone Girl were sixth and twelfth on the list.

Illinois-born actor Bill Murray found inspiration in “Song of a Lark" , at the Art Institute of Chicago, after his first show ended badly. The painting is said to have saved his career. At the Oscars in March, Murray paid Tribute to another Illinois native, Harold Ramis who died the week before.
Showtime's "Shameless" Hunts for Hometown Talentn
Showtime’s Shameless , which is filmed in Chicago searched for talent in Illinois back in February. The Emmy nominated show is based in Chicago’s Canaryville.
