Nicole Richie Plans “Complicated” Sitcom on ABC

"Simple Life" reality star to produce and star in scripted comedy

Nicole Richie is getting her own TV show.

The one-time “Simple Life” reality star and BFF of Paris Hilton is going solo on the small screen with a new scripted comedy on ABC that she came up with herself, Variety reports.

"The story revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships,” Richie wrote on her blog, E! News reported.

“She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman's role is: modern vs. traditional. Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life. It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman's role should be in this era. I've taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!). We're still in the very early stages and I can't wait to share more with you soon!"

The unnamed, single-camera sitcom is set to last a half-hour and is being produced for Sony Pictures TV, Variety reports.

Richie has reportedly secured a writer from the hit show “Californication” and an executive producer from “According to Jim” for the project.

If all goes as planned, the show could secure a spot on ABC’s fall 2010 lineup, according to E!

Richie, the adopted daughter of music star Lionel Richie, is also a published author, and a clothing and shoe designer.

Last week, she checked out of the hospital after a nasty bout with pneumonia.
