Oops: Patriots Super Fan Mark Wahlberg Slammed for Ditching Super Bowl as New England Trailed

The Patriots super fan offered a legitimate reason for leaving early, but some on social media were skeptical

Oops.

"Patriots Day" star and New England Patriots super fan Mark Wahlberg is getting ripped on social media for apparently bailing at halftime of the Super Bowl as his beloved Patriots trailed 21-3. Wahlberg was seen ditching the game with his family in tow.

Spoiler alert: The Patriots came back to beat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime, 34-28.

Wahlberg defended his departure on social media, saying he had to leave because of a sick child.

"I had to leave the game early because my youngest son wasn't feeling well. Trust me, I would have loved to be at the stadium -- but family first. Doesn't mean I don't love my Patriots too!," he wrote.

But Patriots fans were skeptical...and unforgiving.

Wahlberg has had a legendary bromance with Patriots QB Tom Brady for years. Brady has had in "Entourage," which Wahlberg produces, and "Ted 2." In a memorable scene in that film Wahlberg's character is caught attempting to steal Brady's... ummm... manly essence.
