Two Big Stars, Two Big Birthday Bashes

Commemorate the birthdays of two living legends -- Cher and Mr. T

The planets must align just right on May 20 and 21 -- those are the dates when both Cher and Mr. T (respectively) entered this world, making it an infinitely more interesting place. We know you'll want to commemorate these epic occasions, so we found two birthday bashes worthy of such Hollywood royalty.

On Wednesday, May 20, mark Cher's big day (May 20, 1946 -- although she'll probably kill us for giving out the year) at Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club (really, would you go anywhere else?) in Lakeview. The campy club will commemorate the patron day of drag queens everywhere with performances by Cher impersonator (isn't having your own impersonator the sincerest form of flattery?) Regina Upright, along with Cher movies, TV appearances and music videos on constant loop on Kit Kat's five large-screen, gold-framed TVs. Chef Matt Stovey has had some fun with evening's menu, including such dishes as the "Sonny & Cher," an appetizer duet of crispy artichoke and bacon fritters served with a lemon-garlic aioli ($8) and the "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves" entree: rock shrimp, spinach and mushrooms over spinach linguine in a white wine-cream sauce ($21). And, of course, all cocktails will be half-price, darling, including "I've Got You Babe," a concoction of Vox Green Apple Vodka, triple sec, mango, simple syrup and club soda ($5). The festivities will go from 5:30PM until 2AM, with entertainment beginning at 7:30PM.

Then, we pity the fool who misses Mr. T's birthday bash on Thursday, May 21 (the actor was born Laurence Tureaud in Chicago on May 21, 1952), which will take place at his former place of employment, fittingly enough. The gold chain-loving action hero was once a bouncer at Chicago club Dingbats back in the '70s, which is now known as Timothy O'Toole's in Streeterville. Celebrate the man, the myth, the legend at the neighborhood pub, which will mark the occasion with Mr. T trivia games (you could win DVDs of this accomplished actor's body of work). The staff will also dress in various Mr. T garb (think gold chains galore, faux mohawks and the like), and chef Sean O'Brien has created  Mr. T-inspired food and drink specials, including "The A-Team Appetizer Combo," with chicken wings, chicken fingers, potato skins, fries, onion rings and four dipping sauces ($14.99); the "B.A. Baracus Burger" named after Mr. T's A-Team character ($8.99); and the "Mrs. T-ni," a cocktail of Bacardi rum, peach and pineapple schnapps, orange juice and grenadine ($6). The b-day bash starts at 9PM.
