Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean Back in Rehab

Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean has returned to rehab for the third time.

"For personal reasons, I've checked myself into a rehab clinic," the 33-year-old boy band singer confirmed Thursday in a statement to People. "With 2011 being a busy year for Backstreet, I want to be healthy and perform and sing for people at my very best and happiest.”

Last weekend, McLean reportedly alluded to the planned shake-up, writing on his Twitter page that he planned to kick off a “sober journey” this week.

"See u on the other side!" he tweeted on Monday.

McLean previously entered rehab in 2001 and 2002 to seek treatment for depression and alcohol abuse, according to People.

In his statement, Thursday, McLean did not say why he was again seeking treatment and appealed for privacy.

But he added the treatment would not affect his participation in the Backstreet Boys’ planned summer tour with New Kids on the Block.
