Peter Tork, former member of the 1960s pop group the Monkees, is home after surgery for a rare form of head and neck cancer.
Tork, 67, of Mansfield, was released from the hospital Wednesday and is recovering at home, the Hartford Courant reports.
He announced on his Web site last week that he has been diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma on the lower region of his tongue. He said it's an uncommon but slow-growing type of cancer, and it hasn't spread beyond the initial site.
Tork will rest for several weeks before beginning radiation therapy, Therra C. Gwyn, who's serving as a spokeswoman for the singer and actor, told the Courant.
"He's getting a lot of support, which has REALLY kept his spirits up," Gwyn said in an e-mail to the Courant. "And in turn he's inspiring others in difficult health situations to keep their own spirits and hopes high."
Tork’s Web site is publishing his upcoming shows, including a show on June 6 in Manchester.
