Billy Bob Thornton's Daughter Found Guilty in Child Death

Amanda Brumfield, the daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton, has been found guilty of aggravated manslaughter of a child in an Orlando, Florida court.

The charges stem from an October 2008 incident at a friend's home, where 1 year-old Olivia Madison Garcia suffered a skull fracture and died. Brumfield's lawyers claimed it was an accident, and that the child was attempting to climb out of its playpen when it fell.

The prosecution argued that a fall from a playpen could not have caused a three-and-a-half-inch skull fracture. Although Brumfield was found guilty of manslaughter, she was acquitted on first degree murder and aggravated child abuse charges.

Brumfield will be sentenced in July.

At the time of her arrest in June 2009, Thornton's publicist released a statement, saying that "[Thornton] has had no contact with her for quite some time. When informed about this situation, he commented that, 'Anytime a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones.' "
