3 Chicago Spots Make Bon Appetit's List of 50 Best New Restaurants

Three Chicago restaurants are among the 50 best new spots across the country, according to a new list from Bon Appetit.

The magazine released its 50 nominees for America's best new restaurants this year, eventually planning to whittle it down to a final "Hot 10" list.

Of those 50 finalists, three are in Chicago. Bungalow in the city's Logan Square neighborhood made the cut, with Bon Appetit saying of the Middle Brow Beer brewpub, "A more fun place to drink interesting beer and eat interesting pizza there simply is not."

Also on the list? Jeong, a Korean spot in Noble Square that offers a seven-course tasting menu or à la carte options that the magazine called "heartfelt, precise cooking with a Korean bent."

Bon Appetit's third and final spot in Chicago was Kumiko and Kikkō in the West Loop. Kumiko is a "highly personalized Japanese-style cocktail bar," the magazine said, while Kikkō offers a seven-course dining experience in the basement where Bon Appetit says "every bite of food is transcendent."

The list of 50 restaurants will be narrowed down to the top 10 on Sept. 17, according to Bon Appetit, which previously named Chicago "Restaurant City of the Year" in 2017.
