Chicago could have a few more visitors in town to ring in 2016.
Travel site Kayak.com recently released its annual Travel Hacker guide, which features a list of the "Top 10 Trending New Year's Eve Destinations."
Chicago ranked ninth in the world, coming in just after Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. The list features cities with the largest increase in flight searches compared to the previous year. Chicago saw a 34 percent jump in flight searches throughout the US and Canada since 2014.
The increase could be linked to a new celebration planned for New Year's Eve along the river called "Chi-Town Rising." The event is a Midwest spin on the Times Square countdown in New York City, and will feature musical entertainment leading up to a giant Chicago star rising into the sky at midnight.
NBC 5 Chicago will broadcast the event live.
