Gov. Pat Quinn is heading to Israel next week.

Plans of the trip, which begins Monday, include a tour of an electric car company, a Motorola Solutions facility and an Israeli university. Quinn hope to develop the existing ties between Illinois and Isreal in education, business, and science.

"Israel, like Illinois, is making key advancements in innovative technologies and the business sectors that are creating the jobs of today and tomorrow," said Quinn.

"Education, green technologies, and our environment are some fo the most critical issues facing our world. The visit is about sharing what we know, and learning from our friends."

He'll also sign the "Sister Lakes" agreement between Lake Michigan and Lake Kinneret, also known as the Sea of Galilee. The agreement will be an effort to share solutions regarding water purification, invasive fish species, and other environmental concerns.

The Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago is paying for the trip.

Quinn will head to Asia for 12 days in September.
