With the primary elections fast approaching, voters may not be sure of registration dates or the period for early voting.

Here is a comprehensive timeline of important dates to note from the Cook County Clerk's Office before the primaries:

  • Feb. 20: Last day to register to vote by paper application.
  • Feb. 21: First day of grace period registration and voting. If you missed the paper or online registration deadline, you must register in person during the grace period. Here is a list of places to register in Cook County.
  • March 4: Last day to register to vote by online application.
  • March 5: First day of early voting. Early voting must be done in person.
  • March 15: Last day to request a mail ballot, including military and overseas voters.
  • March 19: Last day of early voting and last day of grace period registration and voting.
  • March 20: Election Day. Last day mail ballots can be postmarked.

Here are dates from the DuPage County website:

  • Feb. 20: Last day to register by mail.
  • Feb. 21: Grace period registration and voting begin. Early voting is available at the DuPage County Election Commission, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.
  • March 4: Last day of online voter registration.
  • March 5: Early voting opens at various locations. Here is a full list of temporary and permanent early voting locations. 
  • March 15: Last day to request a mail ballot.
  • March 17: Early voting closes at some locations.
  • March 19: Last day of early voting.
  • March 20: Election Day.

Here are dates for Kane County, according to the county’s election calendar:

  • Feb. 20: Last day to register to vote.
  • Feb. 21: Grace period registration and voting begins. You must go to the Kane County Elections Office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.
  • March 4: Last day of online voter registration.
  • March 5: Early voting begins. Here is a list of locations.
  • March 15: Last day to request a mail ballot.
  • March 19: Last day for early voting.
  • March 20: Election Day. Last day for grace period registration and voting.

Here are important dates from the Lake County Office of the County Clerk:

  • Feb. 20: Last day to register by mail.
  • Feb. 21: First day of grace period registration and voting. A voter must register and vote in the same visit at the Lake County Clerk’s office, 18 N. Count St. in Waukegan.
  • March 4: Last day of online voter registration.
  • March 5: Early voting starts. Grace period voting and registration is available at any early voting site. Here is a list of voting sites.
  • March 15: Last day to request a mail ballot.
  • March 17: Early voting closes for non-state mandated sites. Here is a list of those sites. 
  • March 19: Last day for early voting at state mandated sites. Here is a list of those sites. 
  • March 20: Election Day. Last day for grace period registration and voting.
