There's a lot at stake in every election and the race for Chicago mayor is no different. Before you cast your ballot, learn more about where each candidate stands on important issues the city faces with a week of special election coverage on NBC 5.

Every day this week, NBC 5 will focus on an issue impacting Chicago, and more specifically, where mayoral candidates Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle stand on these important topics.

Monday's issue will be affordable housing, including property taxes. Tuesday will be a look at the candidates' platforms on fighting crime, while Wednesday's focus will be on economic development, including growing small businesses in the city and increasing the minimum wage.

Improving public education will be highlighted Thursday, and Friday's issue will be pensions. Specifically on Friday, the focus will be on how the final two candidates for Chicago mayor plan to address payments into the four city-obligated pensions, that are currently funded at 27 percent - well below what's considered healthy, which is 80 percent.

Each issue-based segment will air in the 5 p.m. broadcast, and all of the segments can be viewed on NBCChicago.com and the NBC Chicago app after they air.

You can find full election coverage - including races to watch, who's on your ballot, early voting locations and more - in the NBC 5 guide to voting in Chicago's municipal runoff elections.
