Federal agents raided the municipal office of the southwest suburban Village of McCook early Thursday, according to multiple sources.
Two sources with knowledge of the situation said that FBI agents executed search warrants at the village hall, located at 5000 Glencoe Avenue, at around 7:30 a.m. CST.
One source said the agents carted out several boxes and computer equipment. A spokesman for the FBI did not immediately respond to request for comment.
The building houses the office of McCook Mayor Jeff Tobolski, who also serves as a Cook County commissioner. Neither Tobolski nor the mayor’s office responded to request for comment.
A separate source familiar with the raid told NBC 5 that federal agents also raided the Lyons Township Village Hall Thursday.
The FBI confirmed personnel were at the village halls in both Lyons and McCook "conducting an authorized law enforcement action." They added they were also at the Summit Village Hall "conducting investigative activity."
The raid on the McCook village hall came two days after FBI agents searched the home, Springfield and Chicago offices of Illinois state Sen. Martin Sandoval.
Both are the latest in a long string of FBI searches at various locations tied to state and local political figures.
The home of Kevin Quinn, a former top aide to Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and the brother of 13th Ward Ald. Marty Quinn, was raided in May, according to multiple sources. Madigan's statehouse seat is one of two within the boundaries of Sandoval's Senate district.
Chicago Ald. Ed Burke was indicted in May on multiple charges of corruption, with authorities alleging he had used his position to steer business to his private law firm specializing in property tax appeals.

The indictment of Burke came after former Ald. Danny Solis, who sources said was himself the subject of a federal criminal investigation in 2014, secretly recorded a number of conversations with Burke using an electronic listening device.
And in June, federal agents also executed a search warrant at the ward office of Ald. Carrie Austin, reportedly related to the zoning of the area surrounding her Far South Side home.
