Emanuel: Burke's Security Not a Priority

To all of those who continue to question the taxpayer-funded security detail afforded to Ald. Ed Burke, the mayor has a message: there are bigger issues to deal with.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel reiterated Wednesday that police Supt. Garry McCarthy was dealing with the issue and would make a recommendation.

"I've never seen four officers for one alderman get more attention, but it will not trump what I have to do for the neighborhoods and the communities," Emanuel said after presiding over Wednesday's meeting of the City Council.

He pointed to the council's action on the gun range issue as being one that demanded his immediate attention.

"To be honest guys, it wasn't on your radar screen," he told reporters.
