Daley Holds Court at Football Classic Conference

And on the second day, he rested.

One day after announcing he would not be seeking re-election, Mayor Daley "has the weight of the world off him," according to a staffer.

Daley, normally ambivalent or combative with the press, was last night seeking journalists with whom to speak. "He wanted to talk and asked where's the press," said the staffer.

Today, Daley's attending the Chicago Football Classic conference to help announce the Sept. 18th game. The conference, which would normally be lightly attended, was packed with reporters.

Behind him at least one mayoral hopeful, Ald. Bob Fioretti, was front and center.

One of  the Classic representatives, Larry Huggins, recalled how former school CEO Michael Scott supported the event and called todays news conference "bittersweet."

Huggins added: "The mayor has really supported education -- the key to stopping the violence."
