The battle between Democrat Brad Schneider and Republican Bob Dold over the 10th Congressional District seat has ended.
Dold has decided not to challenge Schneider in 2018. Dold won election to the seat in 2010 but was defeated by Schneider in 2012. Dold again won the office by defeating Schneider in 2014, while Schneider took back the seat in 2016.
Dold spokeswoman Danielle Hagen says the former congressman's commitment to public service will continue despite the decision not to run again.
On Tuesday, Highland Park attorney Jeremy Wynes announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to run for the seat.
A few familiar names surfaced in Wynes' announcement, including Republican operative Mike Schrimpf, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner's former communications director who spent time on the Ohio Governor John Kasich's 2016 presidential campaign before turning to consulting - which is his role with Wynes.
Schrimpf also said that James Slepian, who oversaw Dold's campaigns, worked on Wynes' announcement video.
Wynes describes himself as a social moderate and "fiscally responsible." He said he supports gay marriage and is pro-abortion rights. He adds he would work to overhaul the tax code and reduce regulatory burdens on business.

The 10th congressional district covers parts of Cook and Lake Counties, including Highland, Park, Lake Bluff, Northbrook and other northern suburbs of Chicago.
