Willie Wilson Did Not Violate Laws With Cash Giveaways, Board of Elections Rules

The Illinois State Board of elections has ruled unanimously that Chicago Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson did not violate any laws and did not need to publicly disclose money his foundation gave away at various events this summer.

Wilson, who handed out cash at church and community events to help pay for property taxes for Cook County residents, dished out over $200,000 during the events.

The state board voted in Wilson’s favor and said the connections between Wilson’s campaign and his foundation were mistakes.

Watchdog group Illinois Campaign for Political Reform says Wilson’s cash giveaway “raises questions about transparency of campaign spending.”
