Get Your Mayoral Wooden Nickels

You know how much a politician’s promises are worth, don’t you?

That’s right: a wooden nickel.

To commemorate that, a group called the Chicago Disorder Preservation Society (named after Richard J. Daley’s declaration that “the policeman isn’t there to create disorder; the policeman is there to preserve disorder”) has issued a set of wooden nickels with likenesses of the mayoral candidates.

They’ve got everyone who even thought of running for mayor, from Rahm Emanuel to his tenant, Rob Halpin. (Candidates who didn’t make the ballot are stamped “REMOVED” on the tails side.)

The wooden nickels are $5 apiece, but you can save money buying them in sets, such as the “Crack Is Whack Set” with Carol Moseley Braun and Patricia Watkins, or the Residency Set with Emanuel and Halpin.

Get your mementoes now, so you’ll never forget this mayoral campaign, or the candidates. (We’ve already forgotten some of the candidates. Who was Tommy Hanson?)
