The Race: Will Guzzardi is a Democrat running the 39th Illinois Legislative District.
The Competition: Maria Antonia "Toni" Berrios
The Buzz: Guzzardi, graduate of Brown University, left his job at the Huffington Post to jump into the race for Illinois legislator out of the district that contains Logan Square. His candidacy pits him against a Chicago Machine legacy in Maria Antonia "Toni" Berrios. Joe Berrios, as you may know, is the Cook County Assessor and head of the Cook County Democratic party. Maria Antonia is his daughter. He said he got in the race after interviewing "Toni" and her former opponent, Green Party's Jeremy Karpen for Huffington Post. Guzzardi saw that Karpen made headway against Berrios, and decided to capitalize on that momentum.
