Report Investigating Rutherford Allegations Cost $27K

The report that State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, a GOP candidate for governor, ordered after an employee voiced allegations of misconduct by Rutherford cost taxpayers more than $27,000.

While the Treasurer's office released the cost of the investigation, it would not release the report itself, denying NBC 5 Investigates' FOIA request, citing current litigation that is underway.

As for the cost, taxpayers will pay $18,122 for 76 hours of work conducted by Ron Braver and Associates and an additional $8,000 on the law firm of Brown, Hay and Stephens.

Former employee Ed Michalowski accused Rutherford of sexual harassment and claims he asked him to perform campaign duties on state time. Rutherford denies the claims.
