Ricardo Muñoz

Election as Democratic Party Candidate for Cook County Circuit Court Clerk

The Candidate: Ricardo Muñoz

The Race: Democratic primary race for Cook County Circuit Court Clerk. It's one of the most important offices, as it keeps record of every document filed in every court in the City of Chicago, one of the largest in the world.

The Competition: Incumbent Dorothy A. Brown

The Buzz: Muñoz is a native of Mexico. In 1993, he became Alderman of 22nd Ward and was one of the youngest members on Chicago City Council at the age of 27.  He also serves as the Democratic Committeeman of the 22nd Ward and Democratic State Central Committeeman of the 4th Congressional District.

He admitted in 2009 to contacting Whitney Young Magnet High School and asking to have his daughter admitted to the sought-after school. Some saw the move as using aldermanic clout to bypass a tough admissions process.
