The Race: Republican Party Candidate for the 14th Congressional District.
The Competition: Dennis Anderson
The Buzz: Hultgren first worked as an office manager and scheduler for former U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert and then with an Illinois-based law firm before starting his own practice. Hultgren was elected state senator in 2007 and to the U.S. House in 2010.
Hultgren considers himself a conservative but believes the Republican party needs to focus on fiscal responsibility and honesty.
He considers his work on medical malpractice reform legislation, which limits the punitive damages awarded when a doctor or hospital is sued, to be one of his greatest accomplishments.
As senator, Hultgren has served on numerous committees such as telecommunications, technology, judiciary civil law, elections, labor and revenue.
