The City Council enters another packed session at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Here are some of the big issues on the table and what else to expect:
Marijuana tickets: The full council reviews the Rahm Emanuel-backed plan to give Chicago Police the option to issue a ticket for possession of small amounts of marijuana, rather than making an arrest. Emanuel said the plan would put more officers on the streets since fewer cops are needed to issue a ticket than make an arrest. Ald. Ed Burke (14th) said last week he has "grave misgivings" about the plan but ultimately voted for it during a committee meeting.
Gun-control revamp: Emanuel is expected to propose a revised gun-control ordinance after a federal judge recently struck down part of the legislation. The mayor's office said the proposal would made a distinction between felony and misdemeanor violations and permanently ban anyone convicted of a felony violent crime. It would put a five-year ban on anyone convicted of a misdemeanor violent crime.
Food-truck changes: Emanuel also will introduce an ordinance to allow food truck operators in Chicago to cook inside their vehicles. The proposal says food trucks must operate at locations set up by the city or 200 feet from restaurants.
Taxi fare hike: Ald. Proco Joe Moreno (1st) is expected introduce a resolution asking for a hearing on Chicago cab fares and whether a hike is in order. Moreno has said the average driver makes less than $5 an hour.
Janitor protest: A local janitors union says it will gather outside City Hall Wednesday morning to protest their contracts getting passed to a company that told them they must reapply for their jobs.
