Quinn Says He Won't Seek Third Term

A spokeswoman for Gov. Pat Quinn is confirming a published report that says the Chicago Democrat won't seek a third full term if he wins a second one in November.

A Chicago Sun-Times columnist reported late Friday that Quinn won't run in 2018 if he wins over Republican challenger Bruce Rauner.

Quinn spokeswoman Brooke Anderson has confirmed the report.

Quinn has long supported term limits, but wouldn't commit to one for himself when asked in recent months.

Efforts to limit terms for public office holders are underway, including one proposed this week in the state legislature that would limits statewide office holders like Quinn to two terms.

The Chicago Democrat said earlier this week that he supported the proposal.
