Quinn Announces Big Construction Project

Pat Quinn Thursday announced a statewide multi-year construction project that he says will create 155,000 jobs in Illinois.

The $11.5 billion project will run through the Illinois Jobs Now! capital program, and aims to improve 3,248 miles of road and rehab 611 bridges.

The money for the program, which will run for five years between 2012 and 2017, will come from state and federal coffers.

According to a statement:

Of the $11.5 billion program, $7.2 billion is from federal funds and $3.6 billion from state funds, including $2 billion through the six-year, $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! capital program passed by Governor Quinn and the General Assembly in 2009.

Details of the plan can be found on the Department of Transportation website.
