The Buzz: Patricia Van Pelt Watkins, who was raised in Cabrini Green, is a lifelong Chicago resident. She began her professional career as a steelworker, where she became a union steward. Afterwards, she earned her bachelor's degree, master's degree and PhD. Watkins finished fifth in the 2011 ace for Chicago mayor last year against Rahm Emanuel. Secretary of State Jesse White endorsed Watkins for the state Senate, questioning whether her opponent Collins lives in the district.
