New Law Targets Redistricting

Gov. Quinn is expected to sign legislation on Monday that will allow the public to sound off before legislative districts get new boundaries.

The Tribune reports
the law also aims to keep ethnic or linguistic communities together in the same districts.

Chinatown was split into three state Senate and four state House districts during redistricting a decade ago. The new law would guarantee four hearings across the state before any redistricting.

Beyond a chance to speak, however, the public has no guaranteed say in how a community might be redistricted.
