New Illinois Law Prohibits Smoking in Cars With Minors

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed HB 2276 into law Friday, prohibiting smoking in a motor vehicle with anyone under the age of 18 inside.

Drivers who smoke in a vehicle with a minor inside will now face fines under a new Illinois law.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed HB 2276 into law Friday, prohibiting smoking in a motor vehicle with anyone under the age of 18 inside.

The law makes such an act a petty offense and drivers would face a first-time fine of up to $100. For a second offense, drivers would face a fine of up to $250, according to the law.

The new rule takes effect June 1, 2020.
