Michelle Obama To Meet With Harper High School Students

First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday will meet with students from Chicago's Harper High School during their trip to Washington D.C.

The private meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT and will be closed to reporters.

The first lady visited Harper's students in April to talk about their experience at the Englewood school the White House said is "profoundly affected by violence."

"This kind of violence is what so many young people like Hadiya Pendleton are dealing with every single day," Obama said of the 15-year-old girl killed blocks from the president's Kenwood home by a gang member.

Harper High School was featured on a two-part "This American Life" series focused on Chicago violence. The students said they feel afraid to walk home from school and worry about getting shot while crossing gang lines.

In the past year, 29 current or former Harper students were shot and eight of them were killed.
