Daleys Selling Home: Report

Former Mayor Richard M. Daley and First Lady Maggie Daley reportedly are selling their South Loop home at Central Station.

The Daleys bought the home 15 years ago but haven't lived in it since Maggie Daley began having difficulty climbing stairs while battling breast cancer, the Sun-Times' Michael Sneed reports. They since have lived in a downtown apartment.

The couple purchased the South Loop house for about $400,000, Sneed says, and they're now asking more than $1 million.

The neighborhood has changed quite a bit since 1993, when Daley moved from his Bridgeport home on South Emerald Avenue where he was raised. Daley said he moved to the area to support the growing neighborhood and Near South Side, which now bustles with condos and commerce.

In 2004, the Daleys looked for a new condo downtown and reportedly considered the Heritage at Millennium Park, with condos priced between $700,000 and $2.8 million. At that time they said they would continue to live at Central Station.
