DNC Misunderstands How Illinois Elections Work

Democratic National Commitee get Illinois election date wrong in mailer

To win elections, you have to get out the vote. And to get out the vote, you have to remind voters when the polls open.

When it comes to Illinois, the Democratic National Committee doesn't seem to know when that is.

Monday, thousands of voters in Illinois received an email from the DNC and signed by “Barack” that said, in part:

“The polls [in Illinois] open tomorrow morning, which means it’s time to step up, make a plan for how you’re going vote, and stick to it.

Except, of course, not so much. Today, those same voters received another email from the DNC that read:

Friend --

Earlier, you received an email from us that was intended to be sent to every state where there is an election tomorrow. Due to an error in the data, this message was sent to Illinois.

There are no elections in Illinois tomorrow, and we sincerely regret the error.

Thanks,

Democratic National Committee

Maybe the DNC needs to make a plan to keep track of when states actually vote, and stick to it.
