The Buzz: Pankau is the former owner and manager of an auto-body and towing business. She was a DuPage County Board member for eight years and Republican precinct committeeman for 18 years. Pankau served as Illinois state representative from 1993 to 2005 after being elected Illinois senator of the 23rd dsitrict, a position she has held since 2005.

Pankau is the Republican spokeswoman for the Senate Commerce Committee, as well as a member of the Energy, Environment, Public Health and State Government & Veterans Affairs Committees. Pankau is also co-chair of the Conference of Women Legislators.

Earlier this year, Pankau used her opponent, Randy Ramey's, DUI arrest police video in her campaign during the primary elections.
