Another Super PAC Gets Into 2nd District Gun Debate

Another out-of-state Super PAC is getting involved in the 2nd Congressional District special election.

Progressive Kick, whose motto is "Give Conservatives the Boot!" has released a 30-second ad attacking former Rep. Debbie Halvorson and state Sen. Toi Hutchinson for their past affiliation with the National Rifle Association. Both received "A" ratings from the NRA, and Halvorson was endorsed by the gun rights organization during both her runs for Congress. Here's the text:

Another day. Another child murdered with a gun. Another heartbroken family. Which special election candidates will have the courage to stand up for our children and against the NRA? Not Debbie Halvorson. Not Toi Hutchinson. Both are on the record against sensible gun safety laws and have support from the powerful gun lobby. On Tuesday, February 26, say no to the NRA by saying no to Halvorson and Hutchinson.

Robin Kelly is not mentioned, but her photo is included with Halvorson's and Hutchinson's at the beginning of the spot, and she's the only one of those three candidates not attacked for her stance on gun control, so the advertisement is an implicit endorsement of her campaign.

Independence USA PAC, which is funded by billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has already spent over $600,000 on ads specifically attacking Halvorson. That makes Bloomberg the biggest player in this election, since none of the candidates has raised nearly that much.
