Rahm Terminates City Employee Credit Cards

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is cleaning his fiscal house.

Emanuel recently asked all City of Chicago sister agencies to terminate all credit cards issued to individuals.

All employee reimbursement plans have also been suspended until reformed policies are adopted by each agency.

Agencies have been tasked with reviewing its policies in the next 30 days, including all credit card use by employees over the past two years and all reimbursements to city and agency employees over the past year.

A law firm will also be brought in to provide recommendations for a uniform reimbursement policy with an emphasis on transparency.

Emanuel called the misuse of taxpayer money "unacceptable," and labeled this move a "crucial step forward as we create lasting, sustainable policies that will benefit the residents of Chicago and guide us forward."
