Collated Data Reveals Chicago's Most Popular Running Routes

In the age of NSA, spyware, and techno-talk, sometimes big data and GPS tracking can be intimidating. But sometimes they can join forces to provide a beautiful visual representation of our lives at a macro-level.

Website Flowingdata.com made just that happen for us, by collating data from exercise apps to map out popular running routes in major cities. You know they couldn’t leave out Chicago, so check out their image of where RunKeeper users are jogging throughout our city.

One interesting point that the author brings up is that data like this isn’t just pretty—it’s useful too. You can plan future running routes that you know have been user-tested, and even city officials might want to take a look at where they should pay extra attention to pedestrian safety.
