Mel Gibson's “The Beaver” Is Coming!

It was so long ago that Mel Gibson's crazy last hit the fan, it may have slipped the minds of some folks that things went pear-shaped just as he was about to release a hotly anticipated film about a man who talks to the world via a beaver hand-puppet.

Well good news, movie fans, cuz an email has just come over the tubes with the first official photo and synopsis for "The Beaver":

Two-time Academy Award® winner Jodie Foster directs and co-stars with two-time Academy Award® winner Mel Gibson in THE BEAVER – an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life.

Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can’t seem to get himself back on track…until a beaver hand puppet enters his life.

The photo is nice enough, and the description doesn't really tell us much we didn't already know. The real news in the missive is that the first trailer will be debuting Friday on "Entertainment Tonight" before being available on iTunes. Even better is that the film is scheduled to be released in the spring.

There had been a lot of talk about how this movie was toxic, unreleasable, but that was obviously nonsense. Directed by and co-starring Jodie Foster, with Jennifer Lawrence, Anton Yelchin  and Cherry Jones, and featuring one of Hollywood's biggest freak shows? This thing can't miss! The schadenfreude/rubbernecking factor alone all but guarantees it will make money.

We're so excited we might actually watch "ET."
