Olivia Thirlby Answers Judge Dredd's Call

Olivia Thirlby's career hasn't quite progressed in the way that we'd've hoped and we're not entirely sure a role in the new 3D "Judge Dredd" is the project to get her over the top.

Thirlby has been cast to star opposite Karl Urban in the remake of the Sylvester Stallone-Rob Schneider buddy-actioner-mess "Judge Dredd," a 1995 adaptation of the comic book. Thirlby will play Judge Cassandra Anderson. Like her namesake of Greek mythology, she is a prophet as well as a telepath and, of course, a rookie recruit.

If you never got a chance to see the original or have forgotten just how awful it was, watch the trailer:

The new "Judge Dredd," to be directed by Pete Travis ("Vantage Point") and written by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later"), has our heroes trapped in a high-rise tower in Mega City One fighting for their lives.

Thirlby is currently filming "The Darkest Hour," about a bunch of Americans on a trip to Russia when an alien invasion strikes. In the meantime, she has two films that should arrive sometime early in 2011, "Margaret," starring Anna Paquin and Matt Damon, and ""No Strings," the comedy formerly known as "Friends With Benefits" starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher.

Urban, for his part, has a role in the upcoming Bruce Willis action-comedy "RED," due out in October.

We like both Urban and Thirlby, but hated "Judge Dredd." Hope they know what they're doing.
