Mark Boal Wins Best Original Screenplay for “The Hurt Locker”

In what has to be a considered a mild upset, ex-reporter Mark Boal's writing for "The Hurt Locker" took Best Original Screenplay.

To call it an upset is to take nothing away from Boals work. It's just that Quentin Tarantino's screenplay was so beloved that fellow writer-director Jason Reitman expressed shock at the Golden Globes when his "Up in the Air" beat "Inglourious Basterds."

With Oscars splitting the screenplays into original and adapted works -- thereby taking Reitman out of Tarantino's way -- it seemed that this was the "Basterds" for the taking.
