Since opening a Twitter account a couple of months ago, it’s not very often that Derrick Rose tweets. But on Sunday afternoon, D. Rose was seemingly reminiscent on the social network on how much time has passed since his college days at the University of Memphis.
Ironically, these posts came just a few days after John Calipari -- who coached Derrick at Memphis -- went on ESPN’s First Take to defend the Bulls superstar on charges that he’s not really a point guard and that he shoots too much, among other things.
"I was up early thinking about how time goes by. I miss the times I had at the University of Memphis with my teammates and how much fun we had," began Rose.
"Memphis will always be my second home no matter what! Y’all showed me a lot of love and for that I will always stay loyal to you all. I know y’all remember the good times we had and how we had to make a name for ourselves. I just wanted to get that off my chest and let y’all know that I miss everything about that city because five years went past and it seems like I just left there! Be safe and Gotti what's up!"
Rose’s Memphis Tigers fell to the University of Kansas in the 2008 NCAA National Championship game. Late in regulation and with a chance to seal the victory, Derrick missed a critical free-throw which opened the door for Kansas to tie the game and go on to win in overtime.
Sixteen months later, Memphis’ Final Four and NCAA championship appearance, along with all of their wins from the 2007-08 season were vacated after Rose was found to be ineligible.
