Reality Star Helps Chicago Teens Choose Prom Dresses

A group of Chicago high school students received makeovers and help picking out their prom dresses from a special team of experts Wednesday.

Monte Durham, host of TLC's "Say Yes To The Dress," provided fashion advice for 30 high school seniors at Harpo Studios.

"We give them that little extra boost on such a special day. Saying yes to this dress will just lead to saying yes to so many other special occasions," Durham said.

The "Say Yes To The Prom" event was sponsored by OWN, Comcast and Discovery Communications. The students were able to pick out their own free dresses, and were primped by a crew of top-notch stylists from JC Penny's and Bare Essentials makeup.

"I was having a hard time finding a dress because I was being too picky, and I came here and I was kinda being picky, but I'm actually glad that I found something that I like," Julian High School student Teah Handcox said.

"It's so expensive nowadays, so who would have thought that they would even come up with something like this," Curie High School's Sylvia Swiercz said.

More than 1,200 dresses were donated for the program. Seamstresses were on hand to provide immediate alterations.

"It means a lot. I'm all about memories," Curie High School's Rocio Solorio said.

During the finale of the event, the girls were able to walk down a special red carpet.

"To watch them walk fully-dressed and jacked up as they say, and confidently walking down that runway, is just amazing to watch that transformation," Durham said.
