Toews, Kane Named Cover Athletes for EA's “NHL 16”

Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks teammates Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane will appear on the upcoming cover of EA Sports' "NHL 16" video game, it was announced Wednesday.

It will be the first time in franchise history that the cover has featured two teammates as well as the Stanley Cup trophy, but the second time each man has individually been on the cover. Kane was on the cover of "NHL 10" in 2009 and Toews appeared on "NHL 11" in 2011.

“The two of us have had a lot of success with our team and been fortunate to be in a great place and take advantage of some opportunities,” Toews said in a Wednesday interview, according to SportsNet.ca. "Here we are getting the chance to be on the cover of a video game again, which is pretty awesome. Something we never expected, but it’s pretty cool.”

Kane, in a statement, said the opportunity to appear on the cover twice and doing so immediately after a Stanley Cup win, was "unreal."

Dave McCarthy, the NHL's Vice President of Consumer Products Marketing, said the players were a "perfect fit."

The game is scheduled for release in North America on Sept. 15 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
